The Wandering Kibbutz
Agricultural Rehabilitation Project
Revitalizing kibbutz agriculture and fostering community living.
Agricultural activity is a cornerstone of the economy of the Western Negev and the northern kibbutzim, and plays a central role in the rehabilitation of the kibbutzim and the Israeli economy. The war created huge challenges in continuing to cultivate the fields and take care of the livestock, and as a result, kibbutz members are facing difficulties in maintaining their main livelihood. As a result, the Kibbutz Movement created an innovative model designed to attract young Israelis to agricultural work. The model is based on creating agricultural employment while fostering a shared social and cultural life for approximately 40 young Israelis aged 20-25. These young adults will live in "youth villages" and work in the agricultural fields of the kibbutzim according to their needs.
